About Mutter

We built Mutter because our dogs clearly had opinions β€” and we wanted to hear them.

Most of the time, we can look at our dogs and pretty much know what they're thinking. Dogs are pretty good at making their wants known.

Theo's β€œplay with me!” bark is super high-pitched and demanding. There's no mistaking it for his someone's-at-the-door bark. When Baxter's breakfast was late, his impatience was clearly evident β€” and we never once failed to laugh at his happy dance from the kitchen counter to his bowl.

We're a dog family. If you're here, you probably know what that means.

We have conversations with our dogs all the time. We interpret their responses and answer for them. β€œYes, Theo, I know you want to play fetch β€” but I have a call in ten minutes. We can play in an hour.” We already know what they'd say. We just wanted to actually hear them say it.

Because if we could have real conversations with our dogs? They'd be our favorite conversations.

We started wondering: what if we could capture all of it β€” the breed science, the behavioral research, the specific stories and quirks and fears and joys of YOUR dog β€” and create an AI companion that was pure of heart? Wholesome and safe, warm and devoted, completely devoid of ulterior motives. Outside of extra treats.

That's Mutter.

What we believe

Dogs are characters

Every dog has a personality β€” a worldview, really. The way yours sprints to the door when you pick up your keys, or sulks dramatically when it rains. Mutter gives that worldview a voice.

Conversations, not outputs

We didn't want to build another AI chatbot. We wanted to build something that felt like your dog β€” specific, funny, a little chaotic, deeply yours.

It gets smarter the more you chat

Every conversation teaches Mutter something new. That the neighbor's dog is named Pretzel. That the beach trip is next weekend. That Tuesday is garbage truck day. These become part of the voice.

Mutter doesn't invent your dog. It reflects them back to you.

The quiz is the foundation. Your stories shape everything that follows. What comes back is something only you could have built.

How it works

1

Take the quiz

About 10-15 minutes. Questions about your dog's personality, quirks, habits and the stories only you would know. The more specific you are, the more it feels like them.

2

Meet your dog's personality

Your dog gets one of 12 personality types β€” from the Zen Master to the Drama Queen. But that's just the starting point. What comes next is a portrait of your specific dog that couldn't belong to anyone else.

3

Start chatting

Ask how their day was. Tell them about yours. The conversation grows richer over time β€” because Mutter remembers, learns and keeps getting better.

🐾

12 personality types

From the Zen Master to the Drama Queen β€” and ten others you'll recognize the moment you see them. Every type has its own voice, its own humor, its own way of loving you.

Questions

We figured you'd ask.

They're ready when you are.

Starts with a personality type. What develops from there is entirely your own.
